Sustainability
Les Galeries de la Capitale has been awarded BOMA BEST Platinum certification – sustainable building, a highly recognized environmental certification for commercial buildings. It is the 1st regional shopping center in Quebec to obtain this distinction.A number of concrete actions have been implemented in recent years, including the installation of over 2,000 solar panels, as well as an efficient management program for all the property’s residual materials. Intelligent, automated operations management has also reduced energy consumption by 19%, improved air quality and optimized drinking water management.Responsible Waste ManagementThrough a structured management program, we prioritize the principles of source reduction, reuse, and recycling at every stage of our operations. We have also implemented an innovative Styrofoam recycling program.Food CourtIn the Gourmet Area, waste sorting is carried out manually by our employees using dedicated sorting stations. The absence of garbage bins helps ensure proper waste separation. Thanks to this optimized approach, more than 70% of the residual materials generated are recycled. We are continuously improving our practices to further increase our recovery rate.Energy Performance and InnovationSignificant investments are being made to improve the energy efficiency of our facilities and reduce overall energy consumption. In 2024, during peak electricity demand events, 229 kW of energy were curtailed solely through internal measures—equivalent to the average power consumption of 45 homes. This performance is made possible through a proactive approach focused on:Energy intelligence, enabling anticipation and reduction of consumption during critical periods;Real-time equipment optimization, through automation of mechanical and electrical systems;Best practices, such as managing automatic door operations and optimizing escalator usage during Hydro‑Québec demand response (DR) events. These initiatives are part of our participation in Hydro‑Québec’s “Alliance des bâtiments exemplaires” (Exemplary Buildings Alliance).Electric Vehicle Charging StationsThe shopping centre offers electric vehicle charging stations conveniently located near entrances.RecyclingLes Galeries de la Capitale are equipped with four compactors that enable the recycling of cardboard, paper, bottles, cans, and plastics.Bicycle ParkingBicycle racks are available at each entrance for your convenience.
